I posted a Twitter message on Saturday that if no one is organizing a BarCamp for your town, you should seriously look at putting one together. BarCamp is billed as an "un-conference" - essentially, a couple of low-key venues are chosen, for Orlando it was two bars next door to each other and anyone can give talks on any topics. There were over 30 talks given on Saturday (and probably just as many on Sunday, which was more geared towards new media and less on tech/programming). The Saturday sessions ranged from Python to iPhone to business intelligence to social netowrking, all given by just everyday programmers/entrepreneurs. The format is such that there isn't even a schedule until the day of the event - you show up at the start and people sign up to give talks.
It was a good learning opportunity but also a great networking opportunity to mingle and meet others in the area that are facing some of the same problems you are. There was even some good PHP/Ruby jibes going back and forth.
If you don't feel up to organizing anything, at least check out your local interest groups - there's likely one within your reach. Working in the virtual world works most of the time but sometimes there is great benefit in someone looking over your shoulder and pointing out exactly what is wrong.
